Kim Kasten, ISA CAPP International Society of Appraisers Certified Appraiser of Personal Property
Ms. Kasten has degrees in Fine Art (1989) and Secondary Art Education (1995) from the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas, as well as studies in the M.F.A. program for Independent Filmmaking at Ohio University. As a CAPP, or Certified Appraiser of Personal Property, Ms. Kasten has achieved the highest credentialing level within the International Society of Appraisers. Appraising since 2007, Ms. Kasten focuses on appraising American and European art, as well as regional and Texas art, which includes paintings, prints, drawings, works on paper, and sculpture. The artists she has appraised are diverse, and include old master prints by Goya, 19th century prints by Renoir and Toulouse Lautrec, self-taught artists such as Clementine Hunter and Lorenzo Scott, Texas artists such as John Biggers, David Bates, James Surls and Granville Bruce, to modern artists such as Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall and Picasso, to contemporary artists such as Sheila Hicks and Vincent Valdez.
Ms. Kasten is a member of CASETA (Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art), and the past President (2012 & 2013) of the North Texas Chapter of ISA. In 2016, she received the International Society of Appraisers Distinguished Service Award for her work within ISA, NTISA and the ISA Education Foundation. For her four years of service on the board of NTISA, Ms. Kasten received the Ellen A. Amirkhan Distinguished Service Award in December of 2013. On the national level of ISA, Ms. Kasten served a three year term (2020-2023) on the board, two of those as secretary.
In her spare time, Ms. Kasten enjoys reading, painting and drawing. The ability to experience and understand both sides of the equation--where art is both created and appraised, is a distinct advantage in working with Kasten Art Appraisal. To that end, questions about the materials your artwork was created with and the creative process are encouraged .
